Building empathy through film

Overview

This time history doesn’t repeat itself.

Strategy, Film Production

Salmon are a big deal in the Pacific Northwest. Their numbers have been declining for decades, and recovery requires collaboration across groups of people that have historically been at odds. Lifeblood tells the story of people ready to bridge old divides to make meaningful change.

Our Approach

A look at
the other side.

Fishermen, scientists, tribal members and farmers all have a stake in salmon recovery, all for their own reasons. We wanted to build empathy across the various groups involved – walking in the shoes of another and seeing the root of their frustration.

Challenges

Finding a place
of integrity and common ground.

Salmon recovery is a heated topic, in a big way. We needed to build trust with the people involved in the film and make sure they felt their authentic voice came through in the final piece. Taking the time to deeply listen to the varying points of view was paramount.

Modular
by design.

Lifeblood can be watched in its entirety or broken down into shorter stand-alone pieces to accommodate different settings and audiences. In this way we could maximize production dollars for a variety of uses.
